In My Room

I wear a guard about my heart
no one slips by without notice
before damage can be done
by any who would mean me harm

I allow no doubt inside my boundaries
my defenses are always on alert
ready to strike before I’d get hurt
or ready to hurt in return

There’s a welcoming fire burning inside
to guide me along my way
waiting for your spark to ignite
and rearrange the furnishings within
