Working Puzzles & Beating the Odds
When I lost focus I gained insight
exchanging exterior thought for inner perspective
and I’m thinkin’, maybe…
our devils may try to lure us into depravity
where pleasures derive from atrocities
with extremes of immoral acts
… for all is not beautiful in the devil’s garden …
In dewy-eyed pursuit of the improbable dream
crossing over the joining bridge
standing statuesque
poised at the entrance to Paradise
Manipulating fact & fancy
based on a whim & a whisker
neutral in the fury of chance & choice
laborious & draining on the ego
When all is fashioned in black & white
revealing comely future endowments
would you not choose to follow
a finely choreographed chain of events?
My home is my fortress with all its comforts
an impregnable wall of defense
an ice palace on a chilly night
to be warmed in the light of a brighter day
I’m as dense as a London fog
– cherishing my beliefs –
and the strength they afford me
Feeling oh so very small
– I stand beside those tall in stature –
true to natural instinct
Half at fault for past miss-takes
– I take it all in stride –
surmising when to run & hide
Taking a moment to gather my thoughts
recollecting the wonderings of a tragic youth
and teachings I was too young to absorb
sheltered from the truths of a wayward world
beginning to understand later in life
there’s a delicate balance twixt love & hate
and one can only hope to outlast one’s mistakes
Attempting to deal with issues constructively
can sometimes be challenging to say the least
when extrapolating solutions from thin air
drawing strength from the predominance of time
in lending direction toward justifiable ends
Treating things methodically is best
entrusting one’s progress to reason & faith
while building castles in the sand
knowing full-well the impermanence of structures
at the mercy of the rising tides
I’ll carry this affliction to my grave & for all Time
should I not achieve beyond my wildest dream
blessed with a wealth of experience & humility
well within the parameters of my every act
Wit & wisdom strike a blow for Humanity
reaching far beyond those feeble-hearted to comprehend
unwilling to take steps toward the unknown
and unable to partner with the concept of ‘Eternity’
Out of Sight – Out of Mind
… out of touch with freaking reality …
